Linden Godlove and Jeanette Strezinski curated a show called "Loose + Bound: A Celebration of Books + Art." The exhibition showcased artists who use books as a medium or inspiration in their creative practice. Handmade books, both traditional and unconventional, altered books, illustrations, works incorporating the written word, and more were on display. Books transport to other worlds, elevate ideas, and spark imaginations.
SATURDAY MARCH 18, was ARTISTS' CHAT + CHILL MUSIC where there was space for casual conversation with any attending artists during that time. There were conversations about mental health, the creative process, and memory. Chad Stocker was invited to add ambient noises as part of the experience.

The art--“Apotheosis, Again”--had been in the works for the art show when one of Linden’s best friends died after a blunt battle with cancer. Linden took the following day off of work to continue creating the piece, which involved carefully hollowing a book out, burning it with a torch, and screwing it to the back of the frame. As a longtime library worker, she found this to be an appropriate appalling process to accompany a day of grief. The book was laid to rest with dried and silk flowers, animal bones, and other treasures since forgotten that are preserved in the art piece. She’s referenced “apotheosis” in numerous works--a term she learned from Joseph Campbell’s “Hero’s Journey.” To her, it’s how there is a rebirth and a new thing that arises from something beautiful being laid to rest. Linden thinks the beauty, chaos, and darkness go well with Chad Stocker's musical soundscape for the day.
Linden Godlove lives in Detroit and works out of her studio at 333 Midland when she is not working at a library.
